Obituary of Thomas Anthony Conti

Thomas Anthony Conti, age 88, Wesleyan Avenue, passed away Thursday afternoon at the St. Mary's Hospital with his loving son Richard and his dear brother Jim at his side. He lived in Las Vegas from 1992 until 2006 when he returned to Amsterdam. Born July 12, 1921 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Ritazzi Conti. He attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School and in his senior year left high school to join the United states Marine corp. He later received his GED. Tom was a U.S. Marine Veteran of WWII and on August 7, 1942 his marine division took part in the invasion of Guadalcanal. After WWII he returned to Amsterdam and worked as a weaver for the Bigelow Carpet Mills for a number of years until he retired due to his disabilities from WWII. Tom was a parishioner of former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister from 1981 to 1992. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and a member of V.F.W. Post 55 and a life time member of the D.A.V. Tom enjoyed playing the horses and going to O.T.B. with his son. On June 24, 1945 he married Lillian B. Scuderi who passed away on September 15, 2006. Survivors include a son, Richard A. Conti of Amsterdam; a brother, James Conti Mary of Amsterdam, two sisters, Margaret Robusto Richard of Las Vegas and Theresa McMullen of Las Vegas; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 15, 2010 at 8:30 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 Am at St. Mary's Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson with military honors. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Disabled American Veterans.
