Obituary of Sandra J. Van Allen

Sandra J. Van Allen, daughter of the late Charles P. Van Allen, Jr. passed away peacefully with loving family at her side on Thursday, November 22, 2018.

Sandra was born on August 25, 1970 in Gloversville New York. She attended Mayfield Central High School and graduated with a Business Administration certificate with high honors from Spencer Business and Technical Institute. She worked for many years for various car dealerships as a Title Clerk.

Sandra is survived by her children, Kassondra Hickey [Adam Hanrahan] of Phoenix, AZ, Alec Hickey of Albany, her life long partner Jody Hickey of Gloversville, brother Charles P. Holland of Gloversville, Sisters, Kristin [Jamey] Agerter of Mayfield, Nicole [Dan] Page of Mayfield, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandra is predeceased by her father, Charles P. Van Allen Jr. Sandra will be laid to rest in cremation with the immediate family having a private service in remembrance.

Sandra’s greatest joy in life was raising her two children, Kassondra Nicole Hickey and Alec Kristopher Hickey, coaching their sports when they were little, and watching their school activities and sports as they grew throughout the years. She was so proud of their accomplishments with college and continuing achievements to this day. Sandra loved baking and had several award-winning pies, she enjoyed gardening and feeding all of “her birds” she would get to feed at her many bird houses around her house.

Sandy will be remembered by everyone as the larger than life personality she was.  She was fiercely independent and not easily swayed by others. When she made up her mind about something, there was little you could do to change it. Her family and friends respected and appreciated this quality in her and knowing that Sandy would always give it to them straight.  You always knew where you stood with her at any given time. She did not mince words and was honest with her feelings. She had an adventurous free spirit and a sharp wit and could make anyone laugh with her stories, her faces, and her bluntness. Sandy made a lasting impression on all she knew and everyone she met. She was not someone you could forget. Her presence in a room was always bold and she was a strong woman, never needing anyone to fight her battles for her. She stood up for herself and others in her life.

Sandy will be missed. It won't be the same for her family members and they will miss her phone calls, her smile, and her laughter. However, they will hold onto the many memories they made with her and will think of her often as time marches on. Sandy, thank you for being uniquely you, never being someone you were not, and showing how strong a woman can be. You are loved.
