Obituary of John J. Dalleo

John Joseph Dalleo of Bunn St, 81, passed away on December 31, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on June 8, 1937 in West Rutland VT to Joseph and Hazel (Fredette) Dalleo and later relocated to the Amsterdam area. John attended local schools for a short time before being employed by many local businesses such as Coleco Industries and Fiber Glass Industries. At the age of 17 John enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country faithfully until the age of 21. Most recently he was employed by Gates Mills where he worked for over 20 years as a Machine Operator. John was united in marriage to Betsy Lee Mazurkiewicz on September 25 of 1960; they remained lovingly married until his passing.

A family man, John dedicated most of his time to his loving wife and children. He enjoyed reading western novels, yardwork, and performing body work on the family cars. John spent some time as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 25 of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. His favorite spot was the Moose Lodge #1185 in Johnstown where he spent time with his many friends. Most recently John enjoyed latch work and puzzles. 

John was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Hazel, infant daughter Abigail, son Ronald David Dalleo in January of 1988, infant sister Sylvia, sisters; Yolanda Bradt and Marie Hill, and brother Daniel VanLone.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betsy Lee, son Andrew Dalleo, daughters; Valerie (Kevin) Thompson and Melissa (Harold) Mosher as well as his siblings; Michael (Betty) Dalleo of Gloversville, Carol Jean Johnson of Virginia, and Katherine (Lyman) Bartlett of Fultonville. He is also survived by several grandchildren; April (Eddie) Dalleo, Anthony Dalleo, Steven (Ariel) Dalleo, Garrett Thompson, Faith (Jimmy) Thompson, Bryan Mosher, Dustin (Chelsea) Mosher, and Desiree Mosher, as well as his great grandchildren: Edwin, Michael, Avery, McKenna, Sullivan, Jaxson, Caleb, and one on the way!

A Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, January 4th at 6 o’clock in the evening at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY 12010. Family and friends are invited to call between 4 o’clock and 6 o’clock on January 4th prior to the service. There will be no interment following services.
