Obituary of Kenneth Lucien Sayles Jr.

     Kenneth Lucien Sayles Jr., 93, passed away on January 1, 2021 at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Amsterdam where he was a longtime resident.
      He was born on June 12, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York and spent his youth growing up in Tribes Hill, New York. He was the son of Bertha Schercinger-Brigandet, a German immigrant and Kenneth Lucien Sayles, Sr.

      He graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1944 and then enlisted into the Marine Corps where he served in China from 1944-46.
His early employment was with General Electric in Schenectady. He started an independent trucking business, KLS Carriers, in the 1960’s-70’s, and then returned to General Electric working as a machinist until his retirement.
 

     His family includes two daughters, Valerie Quackenbush (Mark) of  Winter Haven, Florida and Michele Sayles (Mark Medwid) of Amsterdam.   His son, Steven John, died 1/20/2017. He has six grandsons with four living locally, Scott, Steven James (Renee), David (Jamie), Devon and two grandsons in Florida,  Justin, and Jarod ( Megan) Quackenbush. Six great-grandchildren, Abby, Zoey, Haylee, Hunter, and Elka Sayles and one in Florida, Cannon Quackenbush.   He also had one brother, John, and nieces and nephews.


      Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.   Services and visitation are private for the immediate family only due to COVID 19.  Services will be with Pastor William Hodgetts, Jr. presiding.    A private graveside service with Marine Corps Honors will be held at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
