Obituary of Robert F. Holzer

Robert F. Holzer, 85, of Tribes Hill passed away October 27, 2018. He was born May 21, 1933 in Amsterdam, and is the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Parry) Holzer.

He was a beloved father and grandfather and was always willing to help anyone who asked.  He is survived by his daughter Judith “Judy” Unterberger, and his granddaughter Victoria “Tori” Unterberger.

Robert is predeceased by his loving wife IdaMae “Bess” (VanAllen) Holzer who passed away November 15, 2005.

During his lifetime, Robert attended Tribes Hill Elementary School and Amsterdam High School.  After graduation he continued on to Syracuse University, and SUNY Oneonta.  He was a High School Science teacher, and also tutored area students.   He retired from the Sharon Springs Central School District after 30 years of teaching.  During his summers off from teaching he worked for Montgomery County on the road crews, and worked at one time for NYS Barge Canal. Robert was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and enjoyed the outdoors. In his spare time he also enjoyed hunting for treasures at area garage sales.  Robert also was a lifetime member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, a member of the Amsterdam Masonic Lodge 84, a member of the Tribes Hill Fish and Game Club, and a member of the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Dept.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger Family Funeral Homes, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010 on Monday November 5, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM.  A Funeral Service will take place here at the funeral home on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at 11 AM with Reverend Bonnie Orth, and a burial will follow in the family plot of the Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
