Obituary of Michael John Tesi
Mr. Michael John Tesi, age 94 of Gloversville, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side April 12, 2019 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville.
He was born March 31, 1925 in New York City, the son of the late Nicholas and Dorothy Tesi. He proudly served his country for 2 ½ years as a US Marine CORPMAN in the Pacific during WWII participating in the Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal Campaigns. After the war he was employed as Produce Manager by A & P Supermarkets for 35 years also serving as Union Rep. He owned and operated Tesi's Campsite Store in Caroga Lake, commonly known for their "Penny Candy Counter. He served 10 years as Ward 1 Councilman for the city of Gloversville and 10 years as Supervisor on the Fulton County Board of Supervisors.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Knights of Columbus # 265, acting as the Past Grand Knight in their ranks for numerous years. He also served as the Past President of the Holy Name Society at Saint Mary’s Church.
Michael is survived by his wife Patricia Taylor Tesi, his five children; Nicholas Tesi (Linda) of California, John Tesi of Gloversville, Dorothy Kline (G. Patrick) of Delanson, James Tesi of Gloversville and Marae Tesi (Mario) of Rhode Island, a daughter in-law Lisa Tesi of Leander, TX, 15 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren and a step-daughter Leslie (Glenn) Havens.
In addition to both his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Rita Tesi of 48 years, and his son Michael Tesi of Leander, TX.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday April 15th, 2019 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, NY 12078.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday April 16th, 10:00 am at Church of the Holy Spirit 157 S. Main St. Gloversville, with the Very Rev. Father Donald Czeluzniak officiating. Burial will take place Tuesday immediately following mass at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
