Obituary of Frank J. DiGiacomo, Sr.

Frank J. DiGiacomo, Sr; age 88, of Johnstown, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 8, 1931 in Gloversville, the son of the late Alexander and Emily Smimmo DiGiacomo. A 1950 graduate of Gloversville High School, he also graduated in 1955 from Don Martin School of Television and Radio Broadcast and in 1963 from Albany Business College. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He retired from Fulmont Development Facility (Fulmont Community Action Agency) as Executive Director in 1993 after 23 years of service. He served on the Board of Directors of the Gloversville Little League, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Red Cross Fulton County Chapter and the Fulton County Teachers Federal Credit Union. He also served as Commissioner of Transportation for the City of Gloversville, was a founding member of Bingo for Lexington Center, a Board Member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the CIty of Gloversville and was a member of the Fulton County Board of Elections. Frank was dedicated to his religion since his youth, serving as an alter server since the age of 10 and Eucharistic Minister until present. He was a past member of the Parish Council, Johnstown Moose, Past Commander of Catholic War Veterans Post 642, Knight of Columbus and a representative of Fulton County Diocese Pastoral Council.

Frank enjoyed golf, yard work, spending time with his late wife of 55 years, three children, ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. As an avid New York Yankees fan, he never missed a game. Over the last few years he looked forward to his time shooting at "The Club" - Pine Tree Rife Club, where he was a member.

He is survived by three children, MaryJo Faville,  Alex DiGiacomo (Lorri) and  Frank DiGiacomo Jr; two brothers,  Dr. Louis DiGiacomo (Bernice Bennett) and Joseph DiGiacomo (Sally); a sister, Marie Grundemeir (Richard); 10 grandchildren, Kelli DeMaio (Frank), Jamie Tallon (Chris), Melissa Hally (Will), Thomas DiGiacomo (Henny), Lilly DiGiacomo, Jennifer Sumner (John), Micheal DiGiacomo, Brandi DiGiacomo, Ryan DiGiacomo (Jaime) and Carly DiGiacomo; 18 great-grandchildren, Luca, Frankie, Zachary, Travis, Makenna, Emmett, Sami Jo, Kate, Layla, David, Julian, Madilynne, Emmaleigh, Alahna, Giahna and Penelope; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his wife, Dolores Guiffre DiGiacomo; his identical twin-brother, Dominic DiGiacomo (Barbara); his sisters, Gertrude Catucci, Lousie Mazzola, Emily Spencer and Rose Spencer; and his son-in-law, Everett "Cubby" Faville.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10am to 12noon on Wednesday, December 11 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St., Gloversville,  where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12noon with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
