Obituary of Dean J. McCreight

Dean J. McCreight, age 90, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, NY.


He was a teacher who enjoyed reading, singing, and being very active at First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville from 1966 until its closure. 


He was born January 23, 1932 in Clearfield, PA, the son of John Collins McCreight and Carrie Swift McCreight.  He graduated from Lock Haven State Teacher’s College and Penn State University.  He was married to the love of his life, Jacqueline K. McCreight for 64 years.  She passed away on June 29, 2020.


  He was a Professor of Mathematics at Fulton-Montgomery Community College from 1966 until his retirement in 1994.  He was a member of the NY State Teacher’s Association, was active in faculty organizations, and continued to teach after his retirement.  


  He was a very faithful and active member of First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville.  He was an Elder, served on many committees, sang in the choir and worked in the food pantry.  


  He was also an active and longtime member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus and their affiliate jazz combo the Sentimentalists, as well as serving on the board.  He enjoyed a number of trips to Europe, a lifelong dream, when touring there with the Chorus.  He and Jacque also enjoyed many trips to Maine to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  


  He is survived by brother John C. McCreight, son Thomas Dean McCreight, grandson Alec McCreight, Alec’s mother Catriona Hanley, daughter Elaine McCreight Swaine (John) and extended family members.  He was predeceased by John Collins McCreight III, Carrie Swift McCreight and Jacqueline K. McCreight.  


  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 30 at 2:00 pm at Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Dr. Bonnie Orth officiating.  The service will be live streamed on Facebook.  A reception will follow the service at the church.
