Mary Sanges

Obituary of Mary N. Sanges

Mary N. (Ambrosino) Sanges passed on to eternal rest on Tuesday, May 17 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, in Gloversville. Mary was born on April 12, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Arturo and Amalia Pirro Ambrosino of Gloversville.

Mary attended school in Gloversville and lived in the city all of her life. She resided with her parents and five brothers., Ralph Sr., Albert, Vincent (Jim), Giro (Jerry), Arthur Jr., and Enrico (Hank), now all deceased. She was predeceased by two young sisters, Mary and Anna.

Mary was a glove maker by trade and worked for her family glove business at Ambroson Gloves, and later worked at J. Lewis Myers and Son, Gates Mills, and Rubin Gloves.

Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and of the Junior Mother’s Club of the former Mt. Carmel School. She also belonged to the Ida McGuinnis Senior Citizens Center and the Gloversville Senior Citizens.

Mary was a wonderful Italian cook and holidays were spent together with all of her family. She passed on many traditions and cooking lessons to her children to be enjoyed for years to come. Mary was also a passionate gardener, especially with flowers. She had “two green thumbs” as her children would say. She also passed these qualities on to her children.

Through the years Mary and Herman enjoyed many trips to the coast of southern Maine in the summer months. Mary also enjoyed bus trips with her senior groups to Turning Stone Casino for bingo.

She married Herman A. Sanges in 1949, and the couple had two children. Her husband Herman died in 2002. She loved and cherished her husband. His kindness, humor and devotion brought them 53 years of loving married life. She loved her children and was a devoted mother always putting her family first.

She lived her life honoring our lord and in prayer. She always lived by her faith and had a special devotion to the blessed Mary. She accepted whatever obstacles and challenges that came her way, as the will of God.

Mary will be remembered for her kindness and patience with everyone whom she met. A very friendly, happy, and spirited person, she was always up for a party or an outing. Her humor in later years helped her to cope with declining health. Mary had a strong will to live and was always young at heart.
