Obituary of Nicholas L. Liggero

Mr. Nicholas L. “Nick” Liggero, 88, of Grieme Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 following a brief illness.  Born in Amsterdam on June 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Pat and Antoinette Chirico Liggero.

A lifelong city resident, Nick was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary’s Institute.  He then went on to proudly serve his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. When he returned home, he first worked for the family business, Liggero Brothers Oil Company.  In 1958 he was hired by the United States Postal Service, and retired as the Postmaster in 1992.

On April 17, 1955 he was united in marriage to Patricia DiChello.  Together for 67 years, they had a blessed marriage.  Nick was a member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course and was a member of many bowling leagues.

Nick enjoyed vacationing at the seashore with his family.  He loved to cook and he loved to eat even more.  Nothing made him happier than a good Italian dinner.  He will be missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; three children, Nicolas L. Liggero Jr., Deborah Ann Liggero and Valerie (David) Kline; two grandchildren, Jordyn Kline and Connor Kline, whom he adored.
