Frances Craver

Obituary of Frances E. Craver

Frances E. Craver, 106, went home to her Lord and her heavenly family, peacefully at home on December 7, 2022.  During her time on this earth, she survived two pandemics, two world wars and unimaginable change.  She was born on July 1, 1916 in Nineveh, NY to Leo and Etta (Matthews) Dimorier.  She was united in marriage to F. Donald Craver in 1940.  In 1954, they joyfully welcomed their daughter, Holly, into the family.

Frances worked as a hairdresser briefly before becoming a full-time Mom and homemaker.  She spent most of her life in the Binghamton area, moving to Fort Plain in 2003 to live near her daughter.  She was a longtime member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Binghamton, transferring her membership to the Freysbush United Methodist Church upon her move.  She enjoyed knitting pastel baby blankets for generations of children over the years.  She dedicated her life to her family, cooking wonderful meals and baking special treats, especially during holidays.

She was from a generation of propriety, living her life as a good and positive example to all who knew her.  She loved her Lord above all.  She opened her heart and family to include Tom and Lori (Borchert) Hajczewski like her own offspring.  Although she had not been blessed with grandchildren of her own, Frances was “Gigi” to her neighbor, Carter Hubal and loved him from the moment she first held him in her arms as an infant.  In her later years, it delighted her to be able to have this special little boy in her day to day life.  She was also “Gigi” to several youngsters in Tom and Lori’s family.  She was blessed with many wonderful caregivers in her last years. Her family owes a debt of gratitude to each of them for their exceptional and loving care.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Don; parents, sisters, Doris Kadain and Shirley Davenport; niece, Sharon Rhodes and nephew, Dennis Davenport.  Frances is survived by her loving daughter, Holly Craver; nieces, Karen Rhodes, Debra Davenport and Beverly Hovencamp; and cherished neighbor, Jean Vescio.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11a.m. at the Freysbush United Methodist Church.
