Stanley Karpinski

Obituary of Stanley E. Karpinski

Stanley E. Karpinski of Mayfield, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4th.  He was born to Stanley and Genevieve (Drozdowski) Karpinski on November 10, 1937, in Schenectady NY.  In 1957, he graduated from Saint John Kanty Prep in Erie, PA with the fullest intentions of entering the seminary. As fate would have it, however, he fell in love and married Elizabeth (Tanski) Karpinski in 1959. Shortly after, they moved to Gloversville, NY where they raised their six children. Stan was VP of Sales and Marketing for nearly 40 years at “Spray 9” (Knight Marketing Corp.) in Johnstown, NY.  For many years, he and his family enjoyed summer lake life at their camp on the Great Sacandaga.  In 1994, they made that location their permanent home. Following the death of his wife of 40 years, and with much more love to share, in 2002 he married Marian (Borovicka) Karpinski. Together, they enjoyed travelling and spring trips to Myrtle Beach, visiting the children, and attending Polish festivals. Stan lived loudly and proudly his Polish heritage, enjoying polka dancing with his daughters, cooking golumpki, and sharing Polish holiday traditions with his family.

Stan was a faithful and loyal servant in his St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church community. In addition to serving in many lay ministry roles and on numerous committees, he was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, and Social Spirits.

An avid sports fan, Stan, known as “Mr. K” by many Gloversville youth, mentored and shaped the lives of those he proudly coached in Gloversville Little League baseball and St. Mary’s CYO basketball teams. He was a proud supporter of the Parkhurst initiative, a revitalization project designed to return an historic baseball field to Gloversville. Stan enjoyed many trips to NY Yankee games, was a fan of the NY Giants, and for many years enjoyed his Monday night bowling league.

Outside of the immense pride in his own children, Stan’s greatest legacy was in his role as Dziadzia to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He looked forward to any gathering surrounded by story-telling, music, laughter, and lake-side memories. Each grandchild could look into the stands of their sporting events, school programs, recitals, or graduations and see his beaming smile.

In addition to his wife, Marian, Stan is survived by his six children, Paul Karpinski, Mark Karpinski, Julie (Tony) Ottuso, Laurie (Dean) Gallup, David (Amanda) Karpinski, and Peter (Carol) Karpinski, thirteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marcy (Grabicki) Barlette and nephew Danny Barlette.  He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Arthur “Butch” Barlette.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 noon Monday, April 10th at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St., Gloversville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkhurst Field Foundation Inc, PO Box 706, Gloversville, NY 12078.
