Obituary of Donald A. Coon
Donald A. Coon, 90, A native of Meco, Gloversville, NY passed away on April 14, 2023, with his loving family by his side. Born October 28, 1932, he is the son of the late Albert and Iva (Gifford) Coon of Meco.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol (Chetwynd) Coon of Meco, three sons, Jeffrey (Robin) Coon of Meco, Michael Coon of Mexico, and Thomas (John Carden) Coon of Oxford Mississippi. Survived also by grandchildren, Jillian Coon of Amsterdam and Derrick Coon of Meco, and by his brother Douglas Coon of Meco. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Don is predeceased by his brothers Robert Coon, Willard Coon, and sister Eleanor Brandow
Don was employed by the (GTE) Contel Telelphone Company for 35 years and retired early to an enjoyable retirement. Not letting grass grow under his feet, Don was always active as an all-around hunter, member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club, member of the Meco Volunteer Fire Department, and the Adirondack Beagle Club. Don was always working on his Wheel Horse tractors which was his all-time pastime. A sausage sandwich with double meat and a hot cup of black coffee for breakfast at New York Lunch, running errands at Walmart and Runnings, along with getting his haircut at Fulton County Barbershop with his grandson Derrick; every Thursday was a typical start of a great day in Don’s life, having a glass of orange soda with a chocolate milkshake and Cheddar Jack Cheez-it’s from Meco Stewarts helped make it even better.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday April 27, 2023, from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078, with a 2 pm Memorial Service with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, to follow at the Funeral Home.
