Obituary of Paul Winters

Paul Winters, 64, of Caroga Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday November 6, 2023, with his loving wife and family members by his side.

He was born March 16, 1959, in Amsterdam; the son of Kenneth and Joan (Dauksza) Winters.  Paul was employed at Somerset Industries for twenty-five years, leaving as head mechanic in 2002 to start his own business, Newkirk Mills Rustic Furniture.  Paul custom built one-of-a-kind Adirondack furniture and audio speakers from start to finish, harvesting the trees and milling the lumber.  He retired in March 2021.  He held membership in the NRA and Caroga Fish and Game Club.

Paul was always rocking out, playing music, with a dog by his side.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, ATV’s, and dirt bikes, along with canoeing and camping with his wife and family.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He also looked forward to sitting around the fire with friends, sharing stories, eating good food, with a cold beer or good whiskey.  Paul was that friend with whom you could share anything.

Paul is survived by his wife, soulmate, and best friend, Effie O (Spencer) Winters whom he married on May 17, 2014.  Also surviving him are three children, daughter Ashley Tank (Kristopher) of Lake Mills, WI and their three  children Skylar, Kylie, and Cayde, son Jarret Winters of Fort Plain, daughter Jenah Winters of Canajoharie and her daughter, Talulah, a stepdaughter, Ann Hauser of Gloversville; his sister Mariana Brunell (Scott) of Mechanicville and their two children, nephew, London Brunell (Autumn) and niece Acacia Brunell; as well as two special aunts, Estelle Higgins and Marie Stropoli; and cousins and friends who are considered brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Caroga Lake Fire Company, PO Box 536, Caroga Lake, NY 12032 or to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.

Cremation took place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.  Per Paul’s request, a Celebration of Life will take place in 2024.
