Obituary of Noma Terleckey

Amsterdam – Noma Terleckey, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, with her family by her side.

She was born on August 17, 1935, in Leland, MS, a daughter of the late Leon and Leola (Rogers) Davenport. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

On February 1, 1959, Noma married her loving husband, John Terleckey, John and Noma lived and worked side by side helping to build the family businesses until John passed on October 27, 2010.

The business began as crop farming and was called Terleckey Brothers Hay and Straw which was run by John and his brother Stephen. Both Noma and Karen, Steve’s wife, played an integral part by keeping the books. And boy could Noma keep books! Every penny had to be accounted for and check books had to balance perfectly! When the opportunity arose, Noma and John moved to Pownal, Vermont where they supplied Green Mountain Park Race Track with the hay, straw and grain the horsemen needed for the horses racing there. Steve remained in Amsterdam producing the commodities Noma and John sold in VT.

When the track closed, they moved back to Amsterdam, NY and helped expand the business to include Terleckey Brothers Trucking, Terleckey Tire Service, Terleckey Premium Wood pellet Sales and Terleckey Brothers Warehousing. She dedicated her life to her family and the businesses and continued to be a part of the business until she retired in 2018.

Noma is survived by her children, Patricia Terleckey, John Terleckey (Dardi) and Kevin Terleckey (Susan); grandchildren, John Charles Terleckey, Kevin James Terleckey and Brittney Marie Terleckey.

Private services for Noma will be held at the convenience of the family. Together, Noma and John will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078.
