Obituary of Matthew J. Dybas

Mr. Matthew J. Dybas, 90, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning December 30, 2017 at Capstone Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Amsterdam. He was born on June 14, 1927 in Amsterdam, NY a son of the late Albert and Catherine Malecki Dybas. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. Matthew served proudly in the US Navy during World War II serving aboard the USS Pinnacle Mind Sweeper and the USS Patoka fleet oil tender. He worked for many years in the Maintenance Department of the VA Hospital in Albany, NY. He also was employed by the Scotia Locomotive Company after the war. Matthew was a member of the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post #701 in Amsterdam. He is of the Roman Catholic Faith. Mr. Dybas is survived by two dear brothers, Louis Dybas of Amsterdam and Richard Dybas and his wife Mary Ann Inglese of Van Nuys, CA. A brother-in-law, Joseph Luksis of Scotia, NY. A special nephew, Dennis Rogers of Broadalbin, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Wyszomirski, Lottie Rogers and Jane Luksis. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the 3rd Floor at the Capstone Center for the care given to Matthew over the years. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday January 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Prior to the Prayer Service the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post #701 will conduct their service to honor Matthew at 10:30AM at the funeral home. All are invited to attend. The US Navy will conduct Military Honors following the Prayer Service at the funeral home. Private interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the John J. Wyszomirski Post # 701, 123 West Main St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
