Obituary of Sheila A. Mason-Truscott

Mrs. Sheila A. Mason-Truscott, 70, of Gloversville, passed away May 21, 2013 at Mountain Valley Hospice House. She was born June 6, 1942 in Batavia, N.Y., daughter of Florence Herrick Mason and the late Harold Mason. Mrs. Mason-Truscott graduated Bethlehem Central High School in 1960, majoring in Mathematics. In 1963 she received an A.A.S. Degree in retailing from Rochester Institute of Technology. Sheila spent much of her 20's and 30's in California and in 1978 furthered her education at San Francisco State College, studying real estate. She subsequently accepted a sales associate position with Realty World West Bay, in South San Francisco. Sheila also worked as a passenger boarding inspector at San Francisco International Airport. Leaving California in the early 1980's, she settled in Canisteo, N.Y. where she would eventually meet V. David Truscott and marry October 11, 1986. Sheila was a hostess/waitress at Friendly's in Hornell for many years, only retiring in recent years. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and her warm, engaging personality. She loved socialization and interacting with family and friends. Sheila was an active member of the Foothills United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society. Sheila is survived by her beloved husband V. David Truscott of Gloversville, her children; Midge McChesney of Gloversville, Mason McChesney of Florida, her mother Florence Herrick Mason of Delmar, N.Y., step-children; Tricia Truscott Williams, Kristi Truscott, Stephen Truscott Diane and Daniel Truscott. Sheila also leaves three sisters; Gail Cook, Darlene Dowse George and Melissa Haas James. Additional survivors include her cherished granddaughter Reanna Marin Stewart who always knew her achievements were especially loved and supported by her grandmother, two step-grandchildren Caleb and Ruby Truscott, nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Sheila was pre-deceased by her sisters; Bonnie Stevens and Terri Garand. A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday June 15, 2013 at the Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St. Gloversville with Reverend Edward A. Hackett Jr., Pastor, officiating. Inurnment in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y. will be at the convenience of her family. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the church.
