Obituary of John Gilbert Uhlinger

John Gilbert Uhlinger, 78, of East Grove St., Ballston Spa, NY, formerly of Hagaman, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his home. Born in Hagaman, NY on March 7, 1934 a son of Edward and Marie DePomprion Uhlinger. John was raised in Amsterdam, NY and was a 1952 Graduate of the former Wibur H. Lynch Middle School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War where he served as an Electrician. Mr. Uhlinger was a Nuclear Electrician and was employed for many years for the IBEW Local # 166 and #236 in Schenectady, NY. He was also employed for a time by General Dynamics and also by Lou's Electric in Amsterdam, NY. John was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Ballston Spa, NY and a member of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic CHurch in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles of Saratoga the Pilots Association, Aeronautical Museum of Glenville, NY. The Knights of Columbus Council #209 and was a 3Rd Degree Knight. Mr. Uhlinger was also an accomplished Pilot and flew his own plane for over 52 years he also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. John married Josephine DeCicco Uhlinger on June 28, 1959. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, MaryBeth John Paretta of South Carolina, Diane Stephen Hrebinczak of Ballston Spa, NY and Cynthia Angel of Indiana. Grandchildren, AWS2 Theresa J. Parisi of Virginia, Edward T. Loya, III of Florida, Johnathan Amy Smith of Clifton Park, NY, Samantha J. Smith of Ballston Spa, NY. Taylor and Abigayle Angel, of Indiana. One great-granddaughter, Rosalee Smith and an adopted grandson Brandon Haskell. His sisters, Marilyn Thompson of Ballston Spa, NY and Pauline Sainato of Amsterdam, NY. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Miles and three sisters, Margaret Mary Uhlinger, Lorraine Baker and Lillian Ryder. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John St., Amsterdam with Father Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 1:30PM to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School of Ballston Spa, NY and the Community Hospice of Saratoga both c/o the funeral home office.
