Obituary of Walter D. Buyce

Mr. Walter D. Buyce, age 78, of Clay, NY; a longtime Gloversville resident, died suddenly on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse. He was born February 17, 1934 in Gloversville, the son of the late Henry and Dorothy Blood Buyce and was a graduate of Gloversville High School. Walt was employed as Circulation Director by The Leader Herald for 22 years until his retirement. He later owned and operated Leafwood Sales in Meco from 1988 until 1997 when he relocated to Murrell's Inlet, SC where he operated Walt Buyce Small Engine Repair. He moved to Clay, NY from South Carolina seven months ago. Walt was a former member of the Eccentric Club and Lions Club in Gloversville. In 1952 he was married to Joyce Buyce who died in 1994. Survivors include three children: Walter C. Buyce Lynn of Gloversville, Wayne R. Buyce Terry of Gloversville and Lori Mongato John of Clay, NY; four sisters and a brother: Florence Kretser of Fort Plain, Pearl "Bea" Passero of Gloversville, Winifred Paul Walter of AK, Celia Smith John of Johnstown and Herbert Buyce of Gloversville; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister and two brothers: Betty Blaney, Henry "Hank" Buyce and Harvey Buyce. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held 9:00 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Sandra Geer officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
