Obituary of Victor A. Brumaghim

Victor A. Brumaghim, 85, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 16, 2010 following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 21, 1925 in Gloversville, the son of the late William and Lydia Slack Brumaghim. Victor served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a crewman on the landing craft and participated in the Battles of Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was also a member of the Navy Choir. On October 1, 1949, he married his sweetheart, the former Marie Vetro, who survives. They shared over 60 wonderful years together. Victor was very active for the Fulton County Museum. Not only donating his professional talents but also as a board member, participating in fundraising and was even named Volunteer of the Year. He was also a member of the former Adirondack Bowling League. As a self employed carpenter, Victor built many homes in the area and took great pride in his work. He was a voracious reader but also had many other hobbies and interests. He will be very sadly missed. In addition to his beloved wife, Marie, survivors include three sons: Victor J. Brumaghim Beth of Saratoga, David W. Brumaghim of Alameda, CA and Dean M. Brumaghim Merry Ellen of Gloversville; a daughter, Melissa Pilkey George of Middle Grove; six grandchildren: Cole Brumaghim, Kai Brumaghim, Cameron Pilkey, Gabriella Brumaghim, Dorian Brumaghim and Bryan Brumaghim; one sister, Ruth Trzaskos of Perth and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Victor was predeceased by five brothers: William McCaffrey, Harold Brumaghim, Paul Brumaghim, Milton Brumaghim and Guy Brumaghim. Family and friends are invited and may call Saturday, June 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. with the Reverend Tom Davis presiding. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium. Interment will be Monday, June 21 at 10 a.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Victor's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Fulton County Historical Society & Museum, 237 North Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
