Obituary of Eugene P. Yurkewecz

Eugene P. Yurkewecz, 86, of Lansing Road, passed away Friday evening at Well's Nursing Home in Johnstown. Born April 2, 1924 in Glen, New York, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Michelzyn Yurkewecz. Gene was a lifelong area resident and attended Fultonville High School. He was a dairy farmer who owned and operated the Glenridge Farms with his wife, on Fisher Road in glen until he retired in 1995. Gene attended the Glen Reformed Church. He was a member of Farm Bureau of Montgomery County and the Fulton County Antique Car Club where he enjoyed showing his Model A 29 Ford, 30 Chevy and 70 Impala at local car shows. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, at Christmas and at Kaye's Caroga Club, the family camp in Caroga Lake. On June 19, 1946 he married the former Katherine Kaye J. Swart who passed away August 19, 1997. Gene was predeceased by a son Eugene Kenneth Yurkewecz and two grandsons, Michael Parenti and Christopher Schnell. Survivors include his loving family, four daughters, Carol Parenti of St. Cloud, FL, Judith Murray Thomas of Fultonville, NY, Cynthia Doherty George of Gloversville and Sharen Yurkewecz of Westerville, OH; a sister Mary Ripley of Auriesville; seven grandchildren, Jay, Tony, Brian, Erin, Lauryn, Matthew and Corene; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Timothy Alicki officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life gathering for family and friends to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Reformed Church, 1526 State Highway 161, Fultonville, NY 12072 or to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
