Obituary of Helen James

Mrs. Helen James, 83, of Hagaman, passed away Wednesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Mrs. James was born May 15, 1926 in Johnstown, NY, daughter of the late Ignac and Gertrude Karifit Simek. She graduated Johnstown High School in 1945 and was employed early in her life at the Upstate Telephone Co. She later worked as a clerk at the former Stowle's Toy Store in Gloversville. Helen was a devoted home maker her entire life. In addition to her many years at the Fulton County Board of Election, Helen also found time to enjoy reading, shopping, her daily rides and time shared with grandchildren and great grandchildren. A more recent member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman, Helen enjoyed many new friendships and her activity in the church. Helen was married June 29, 1946 to Oscar L. James Jr. who pre-deceased her in 1992. Survivors include her children, Martin A. and Sally James of Mayfield and Lori and Michael Mucilli of Perth and her grandchildren, Stacy Marlin, Samuel James, Courtney James, Anthony Mucilli and Julie Mucilli. Helen is also survived by great grandchildren, Lilly Marlin and Liam Marlin; a sister Bertha Thorne of Oxnard, CA; a sister-in-law Gladys Simek of Johnstown and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Sandra M. James; her brothers, James, Louis, William, John and Richard Simek and her sisters, Agnes, Florence and Julia. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday at the Calvary Reformed Church, 15 Church St. Hagaman with Reverend Stanley F. Craig officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 am to 12 noon at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
