Obituary of Albert H. Wanzer

Mr. Albert H. Wanzer, Jr., 77, formerly of Maple Avenue, Canajoharie, NY died peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Palatine Nursing Home. Born on August 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Albert and Cecelia Brandt Wanzer, Sr. Albert moved to the area as a child with his family. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the former St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a life member of the American Legion, Post 57 in Cobleskill, NY. Despite his disability, he overcame many challenges in his life. He worked for a time for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie and served in the United States Army. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. On April 11, 1995 he married Helen Wagner Wanzer and sadly that union lasted only two year until her passing on April 19, 1997. He was also predeceased by his sister Bertha Yerdon. Survivors include his brother, Donald Wanzer of Canajoharie, NY; his nephew and caregiver, Lawrence "Larry" Bush of Cobleskill, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Interment will follow in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 10 o'clock at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mr. Wanzer's name may be made to the American Legion Post 57, PO Box 252 Cobleskill, NY 12043.
