Obituary of Martha C. Clemente

Martha C. Clemente, 90, died April 24 with her loving family by her side at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a brief illness. Born April 27, 1919 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Mildred Hathaway LaRowe. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1936 and Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing program in 1940. Martha traveled to Panama for two years as a registered nurse working for the government at Gorgas Hospital. Returning to Gloversville in 1945, she worked as a registered nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital and also did private duty nursing. Martha married Frank J. Clemente on January 23, 1946 and enjoyed 64 years of wonderful marriage. Martha also worked along side her husband in their store, Clemente's Grocery on West Fulton St. And then on Broad Street in Gloversville .She was the heart of her family who gave unending love to her husband, children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Martha wrote very special letters and cards for every occasion to all of them which held a special place in their hearts. She was deeply involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities, showing her everlasting support and love. Martha made everyone's life she touched special and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. An expert at crossword puzzles, she also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles with her husband Frank and watching New York Yankee baseball. In earlier years, Martha liked to bowl and was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. A devoted member of Nathan Littauer Hospital Alumni, she rarely missed a dinner or special event. She was always there to listen, support and care for family and friends. On pleasant days, Martha and Frank could be found enjoying the simple pleasure of their backyard swing. In addition to her husband Frank J. Clemente of Gloversville, Martha is survived by her daughter Susan Charlie Zambri of Gloversville and two sons; Mark Nancy Clemente of Gloversville and Frank Sally Clemente of Broadalbin. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lynn Clemente, Cara Zambri and Charlie Zambri both of Boston, MA, Meghan Clemente and Brian Clemente both of Broadalbin. Martha has two cousins; Suzanne Geraghty and Sally Phelps. She was pre-deceased by a daughter Coreyne Clemente, a grandson Michael Clemente, two sisters; Ellen and Jean Ann. Martha was also pre-deceased by her step-father Fred Corey who was instrumental in her life. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Thursday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville with her brother-in-law, Reverend Michael D. Clemente officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville, 12078 or to a charity of choice.
