Obituary of Bruce Smarup

Mr. Bruce S. Smarup, of State Hwy. 67, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully at home on Friday, March 26, 2010 following a long illness. A lifelong area resident, Bruce was the son of the late Martin and Beatrice Rivenburg Smarup and attended local schools. He was working for Beckmann Converting until the onset of his illness as a machine operator. Bruce was a member of several sporting organizations and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed nature and took a great interest in preserving its natural beauty. He was a dedicated family man, whose greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved his pets. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His loving family includes his wife, the former Beverly Schoeffler; three daughters, Cheryl Gentile and her husband Nicholas of Amsterdam, NY, Debbie Gifford and her husband John of Ballston Spa, NY and Nancy Smarup; two brothers, Charles Smarup and his wife Anne of Jupiter, FL and Dwight Smarup and his wife Sandra of Gloversville, NY; five grandchildren, Shauna, Ryan, Matthew, Daniel and Christopher; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Community Hospice of Amsterdam in his memory.
