Obituary of Carolyn Mae Wagschal Dumar

Carolyn Mae Wagschal Dumar, 90, of Streeter Rd, Fonda, died peacefully Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam surrounded by her loving family. She was born in the Wagschal family home on Burton Street in Johnstown, NY August 21, 1919 the daughter of the late Julius and Carolyn Ulrich Wagschal. Carolyn was a life resident of the area and was a 1937 graduate of Johnstown High School. She worked as an office manager at the Knox Company in Johnstown for over thirty years, which eventually became the Lipton Company. Carolyn was united in marriage to Harry C. Dumar of Fonda on October 11, 1940 in Utica, NY by Carolyn's Uncle Louis Wagschal, a Lutheran minister. During the beginning of their marriage, Harry would take the Caboose from Fonda to Johnstown to visit Carolyn while she worked at Knox, which was close to where their first residence was on Meadow Street. They then lived on Center Street in Fonda for 13 years before building their current home on Streeter Road. Carolyn was a member of the Johnstown Lodge #1185 Loyal Order of Moose, the Susquenango Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association, and of the Lipton Ambassadors Club. As a woman of faith, Carolyn was also a former Sunday School Teacher at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Johnstown. She also enjoyed gathering information on her family's genealogy and loved to keep detailed records of her family's history. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Harry C. Dumar, her three brothers Kenneth, Donald and Edwin Wagschal and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Dumar. She is survived by her son Richard H. Donna M. Dumar of Glendale, AZ, her grandchildren, Robert Helen Dumar of Phoenix, AZ, Deborah Geoffrey W. Dumar-Lewis of San Miguel, CA. and Mark Sharron Dumar of Mesa, AZ, great grandchildren, Monique, Robert and Christopher Dumar of Phoenix AZ, her nieces and nephews, Barbara, Diane, Kenneth and Phillip Wagschal, Donna Lee Fran Hiegal, Judy David Thum, Amy Wagschal, Beth Wagschal, Joanna Will Wagschal- Robinson, Roy Dumar, Karen Joseph Ford, Christine Wayne Hand, and Raymond Lynn Dumar. Funeral Services will be at 2:00PM on Saturday March 6, 2010 at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072 with Rev. William T. Hodgetts, Jr., officiating. Visitation prior to the services will be private for her family. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats in Fonda. Contributions in Carolyn's memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in care of the funeral home.
