Obituary of Carolyn M. Lampkin

Mrs. Carolyn M. Lampkin, 77, of Northampton Road, Amsterdam, NY was called to eternal life on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at home following a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side. Born on May 16, 1932 in Schenectady, NY she was the daughter of the late Martin and Marguerite Liebundguth Lawya. A graduate of Scotia High School, Carolyn moved to Amsterdam in 1956. She worked for Saratoga County and Montgomery County Data Processing Departments for 30 years. She retired in 1994 as Director of Montgomery County Date Processing. Following retirement, she enjoyed being the secretary and member of Faithful Followers group for her beloved church, St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran for many years. Over the years, she was involved in many community organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother for many years. She was a member of the Amsterdam Professional Business Women's Association, The Amsterdam Women's Classic Bowling League, St. Stanislaus Women's League and was a member and officer of the Irish American Club Women's Auxiliary. In later years, she enjoyed doing ceramics, golfing and being with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. On June 30, 1951 she was united in marriage to Edmund F. Lampkin. That union lasted nearly 45 years until his passing on January 4, 1996. She was also predeceased by a great grandson, Zachary Bartman. Survivors include her children, Gary Lampkin of Amsterdam , NY and Gail Rogers and her husband Robert of Ft. Hunter, NY; two grandsons, Jeremy Bartman and his wife Sheena and Joshua Bartman and his wife Debra, all of Amsterdam; two great grandchildren, Izabella and Connor Bartman; and a step granddaughter, Janell Rogers of Maryland. Also surviving are her brother, David Lawya and his wife Donna of Saratoga Springs, NY; four sisters, Janet Clother and Joan Lawya of Schenectady, NY, Ruth Hamm and her husband Robert of VA Beach, VA and Nancy Bowden and her husband Raymond of Gloucester, VA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 1 o'clock at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Dr. John Califano, officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours at Carolyn's request. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam or St. Luke's Church in care of the funeral home office. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
