Obituary of Irene E. Laska

Irene E. Laska, age 79, of Pine Tree Drive, Gloversville, passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, with her loving family by her side. Born June 17, 1930 in Hoffmans, NY and she was the daughter of Peter and LuLu Semotan Meca. She attended Hoffman school and later Wilber H. Lunch High School. She was employed as a sewing machine operator for Garfalls Leather in Johnstown, Taylor Maide in Gloversville and Neotaria in Gloversville until retiring in 1996. After her retirement she worked part time at Wal-mart in Gloversville. Irene was of the Roman Catholic faith. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and taking care of animals as well as babysitting. She loved her children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. On September 5, 1948, she married Chester J. Laska, Sr. who passed away October 4, 1993. Survivors include two sons Chester J. Laska, Jr. Patricia, Mayfield, Gary N. Laska of Canajoharie, NY, Three daughters Rose Hidde Thomas of Scotia, Lisa M. Howard Edward of Fonda, Tina M. KenyonChristopher of Gloversville, a brother Peter J. Meca Norma of Amsterdam, a sister Ruth M. Auspelmyer Milton of Hoffmans, Fourteen Grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene was predeceased by a granddaughter Terry and two sisters Caroline and Marlene. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Irene's memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
