Obituary of Antoinette Polito Martuscello

Mrs. Antoinette Polito Martuscello, 94, of Knollwood Ave, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully February 4, 2010 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 3, 1915 a daughter of the late Vito and Josephine Cosentino Polito. She along with her Mother and sister moved to Italy before World War I and did not return to Amsterdam until after the war. She attended St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam. Antoinette was employed for many years at various mills in Amsterdam finishing her career at the Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. She was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of St. Michael's Church Santa Sofia Society and the Altar Rosary Society. She married Vito Martuscello on February 11, 1934 and celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary last year with her family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband Vito survivors include three sons, Daniel Martuscello and his wife Sheila of Amsterdam, Richard Martuscello and his wife Lorraine of Dover, N.H., Joseph Martuscello and his wife Irene of Amsterdam. One daughter, Theresa Cranker and her husband Bill of Amsterdam. One dear brother, Father Victor Polito of Amsterdam. Twenty two grandchildren and forty four great-grandchildren. A Special friend Louise Godlewski, nieces, nephews, cousins. She helped raise her niece Mary Bustamante and nephew Vincent Scidone who also survive. Antoinette was predeceased by a daughter, Immaculate "Mackie" Colangelo on July 31, 1998. Two grandsons Jeffrey Poole who passed away on September 25, 1994 and Matthew J. Martuscello on December 4, 2002. A great-granddaughter, Samantha Wiley, one sister, Immaculata Scidone, and a brother John Politi. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 10:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam with Antoinette's brother Father Victor Polito as celebrant and Father John Medwid as concelebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday February 9, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Matthew J. Martuscello Scholarship Fund c/o the funeral home.
