Obituary of Barbara Herrick

Barbara Herrick, 78, of Bullshead Road died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Lake Wales Medical Center in Lake Wales, Florida. She was born in Framingham, MA June 20 1931, daughter of the late Wilson and Frances Scott Hess. Barbara was raised in Hagaman, NY and attended local schools. She married Irvan C. Herrick August 20, 1949 at Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman. Barbara began her career working at JJ Newbury then at Esquire Novelties in Amsterdam. She then went to work as a Caregiver with Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam, where she eventually retired. Barbara spent many years residing in the Town of Florida where she was a life member of the Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary and a very active member of the Woestina Reformed Church. She also was a past volunteer with local Girl Scouts, 4-H Club and Cub Scouts. Barbara loved to go camping in earlier years and also enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, baking and attending her grandchildren s sporting events. Her loving family includes her husband of nearly 61 years, Irvan Boss Herrick of the Town of Florida, her son Robert Herrick and wife Joanne of Scotia, her daughters Linda Sparks and husband Carl of Marietta, GA, Kathleen VanDetta and husband Wayne of Amsterdam and Mary Alice Sherlock and husband Scott of Amsterdam, her brother Wilson Hess and wife Connie of Mesa, AZ, her twin sister Betty Traskos and husband Matthew of Frost Proof, FL and Broadalbin, NY, her sister Dorothy Delarm of Davenport, FL and her grandchildren C.J. and Kristin Sparks of Marietta, GA, Trevor Herrick of Scotia, Vincent, Mikayla and Nicole VanDetta all of Amsterdam, and Meaghan and Kyle Sherlock of Amsterdam. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her son Nicholas George Herrick. Funeral Services will be at 10:00AM on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010 with Rev. Kent McHeard, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Woestina Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Contributions in Barbara s memory may be made to the Woestina Reformed Church or to the Town of Florida Vol. Fire Dept. in care of the funeral home.
