Obituary of Nellie Alexaitis

Nellie Alexaitis, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at the River Ridge Living Center with her loving daughter at her side. Born in Amsterdam on August 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Kanaporis and lived here her entire life. She was employed for a time as a seamstress and worked for the former S & F Sportswear in Amsterdam. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and more recently St. Mary's. Nellie was a member of St. Casimir's Seniors at one time. She enjoyed gardening and knitting and cooking, passing down some of her Polish and Lithuanian delicacies to her family. On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Raymond Janiga. He predeceased her on May 10, 1978. She later married Leo Alexaitis in 1984, and he also predeceased her on April 8, 1990. Her loving family includes her daughter, Arlene Boice of Amsterdam; a son, David Janiga of Albany; granddaughters, Brenda Peconie and her husband Brian, Sherri Spraker and her fiancé Jason Lott and Debbie Wright and her husband Tom and twin great-grandsons, Matthew and Zachary Wright. Nellie was also predeceased by a brother, Edward Kanaporis. Services will take place Monday morning at 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. A calling hour will commence at 9:30 am Monday prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at River Ridge LLC in care of the funeral home office. Nellie's family is most grateful to their entire staff for the wonderful care she received this past year.
