Obituary of Karol Kulig

Mr. Karol Kulig, 90, of Folts Home, Herkimer, and formerly of Canajoharie, died peacefully Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Born in Passaic, NJ on May 23, 1919 he was the son of the late John and Ewa Surowiec Kulig. He was raised in Poland by his grandparents and returned to this country in 1933. Mr. Kulig served in the United States Army during WWII. He married the former Alice Soodsma on September 27, 1947. They moved to Canajoharie in 1952, and resided on Blaine Road for 52 years. Mr. Kulig worked for many years as a mechanic at Shults Motor Sales in Canajoharie. He was a long time member of the Ames Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Currytown Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice Kulig of Herkimer; his son, K. Randolph Kulig and his wife Pam of Cold Brook; two daughters, Kathy VanLoan and her husband, Dana of Fort Plain and Jenifer Bell and her husband, Craig of Swanzey, NH; six grandchildren, Stephanie Crowe, Jesse VanLoan, Corey Bell, Kasha Bell, Kristin Bick, and Peter Kulig; two step grandchildren, Ian VanLoan and David Slavic; and three great grandchildren, Nigel and Cameron Skottke and Kaetlyn Crowe. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1 o'clock at the Currytown Reformed Church in Sprakers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions are made in Mr. Kulig's memory to the Ames Volunteer Fire Department or the Currytown Reformed Church in care of the funeral home office. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
