Obituary of Vivian O. Fisher

Mrs. Vivian O. Fisher, age 96, of Gloversville, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She had resided at the Getman Memorial Home for the past five years. She was born August 23, 1913 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Roscoe and Emma Hinn Oaksford. Her father became ill and died at a young age. Vivian was then raised by her mother and stepfather, Harry Bushouer. She later graduated from Gloversville High School and Wheelock College in Boston. Vivian was a school teacher at the former Peck's Lake School House in the 1940's. She later was a substitute teacher in the Gloversville School District and then became a 5th Grade teacher at McNab Elementary School for about ten years until her retirement. She was a member of Foothills United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Wesleyan Circle. Vivian and her husband enjoyed traveling. She also liked to play bridge weekly and in her earlier years was a Cub Scout Leader. She was married on April 8, 1939 to Richard C. Fisher who died December 11, 2001. She is survived by two sons, David R. Fisher Linda of Gloversville and Edwin W. Fisher Sara of Columbia, SC; four granddaughters, Kristin Fisher Komarinski Derrick, Karen Fisher Dickman Benjamin, Robyn S. Fisher and Barrett E. Fisher; a great-grandson, Lucas David Komarinski and a nephew, Richard S. Fisher. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helena Oaksford. A private Funeral Service will be held at the convenience of the family at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville, with the Rev. Cynthia J. VanAllen officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St; Gloversville or to Getman Memorial Home, 15 East State St; Gloversville, NY 12078.
