Obituary of Anna Marotta

Mrs. Anna Marotta, age 92 of Gloversville, died peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. She was born April 18, 1917 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Consiglia Iavarone Ferrara and attended Gloversville schools. She became a member of the Gloversville School's PTA in 1946 and held offices in elementary, junior and senior PTA's. She was active in Founder's Day Dinners and Teachers Day Recognition Dinners where she has received the New York State and National Membership Awards. She was a member of the New York State PTA for over 50 years. Anna was active in Fulton County Girl Scouts for over 50 years and in 1970 was honored as "Girl Scout Leader of the Year". She was also the recipient of the "1999-2000 Hall of Fame Award" for the Gloversville Enlarged School District. She was a well-known individual in her community, receiving "The 1996 Citizen of the Year Award for S.P.R.I.N.G." Anna was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where she served on the Parish Council, held many offices in the Women's Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister both at the church and for the homebound. She was a religious education instructor for more than 17 years and served as an instructor for the First Holy Communion Class and as an instructor she had the children make homemade quilts for residents of local nursing homes. In 1979 she became a Teacher's Aide in the Gloversville Pre-K and Head Start programs where she worked for more than 20 years, retiring at the age of 82, leaving behind her glove-making career of more than 50 years. She was a remarkable seamstress, an artistic cake decorator and most of all an extraordinary and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her family, friends and caregivers were the most integral part of her being. Her journey here was a blessing to all of us and her passing was as peaceful as anyone could hope for. Anna was married to James V. Marotta on July 20, 1941 who died January 4, 1981. She is survived by three children, Sandra Lauritano the late Ralph and Consiglia Rozycki Richard of Gloversville and James F. Marotta Patti of Town of Bethlehem; a sister, Geraldine Mullins Alfred of Johnstown; six granddaughters, Theresa Butkevitch Peter, Sharon Dye Terry, Jennifer DeWeese Jeff, Alicia Lauritano Leo, Melissa Prescott David and Jamie DiGrazia Dominic; two grandsons, Jeffrey Rozycki Kate and James Marotta, Jr. Betsy; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by ten siblings, Carmella Russo, Mary Ferrara, Felicia Ferrara, Rose Christiano, Phillip Ferrara, Joseph Ferrara, Katherine Pino, Felicia Wescott, Elinor Ferrara and Dominic Ferrara. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 30 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S.
