Obituary of Doris Lee Baker

Mrs. Doris Lee "Dee Dee" Baker of Mayfield, NY passed into the arms of Our Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the age of 91 at home with family at her side ending a long illness. Dee Dee was born October 18, 1918 to the late John Kennard Hamilton and Marion Lee Woods in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Jamaica, NY where she met her husband of 64 years, Arthur Ephraim Baker, who passed away in 2006. They resided in East Setauket, NY where they raised their 5 children until 1973 when they moved to Mayfield after purchasing Grandview Marina. Dee Dee and Art ran the marina together until 1994 and continued to enjoy living on the Great Sacandaga after selling the business. Dee Dee was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Church now the Church of the Holy Spirit. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her beloved horse, Devon and watching the Yankees, Giants and Notre Dame ball games. Survivors include her sister, Mary Rose Hessinger John of Beverly Hills, FL; her five children, Arthur E, Baker III Cynthia of Rocky Point, NY; Linda Lee Weber James of Boca Raton, FL; Mary Beth Jensen Mark of O'Fallon, IL; Barbara Ann Ferraro Glenn of Fultonville, NY; and Donald G. Baker of Fultonville, NY; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 27 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to St. Judes Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103.
