Obituary of Leonard C. Gizelba

Leonard C. Gizelba, 86, of Midline Road, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a brief illness. Born in Nanticoke, Pa. on November 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Felix and Victoria Dzwielewski Gizelbach. An Amsterdam resident for many years, he was employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. He retired in 1982 after twenty eight years of service. From 1944 to 1949, he proudly served with the US Army Air Corps. As a 1st Lieutenant, he flew over fifty combat missions in Europe. Len was a parishioner of the former St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of the former American Lithuanian Club and the American Lithuanian Veterans. On April 8, 1951 he was united in marriage to the former Veronica Liberis. In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter Lenore Tokarowski of Fultonville; his granddaughter Victoria Tokarowski of Sydney, Australia; sisters; Eleanore Feinblatt of Lenox, Mass. and Irene Manning of Lakeworth, Fla. ; a brother in law; Edmund Liberis of Amsterdam and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Wednesday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Interment is in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Community Hospice Of Amsterdam, in care of the funeral home office.
