Obituary of Frank P. Tambasco

Frank P. Tambasco, 89, formerly of Chapel Place, passed away peacefully Monday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with his son at his side. Born in Amsterdam on April 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Elizabeth D'Addio Tambasco. A lifelong resident, he was a 1937 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Frank entered the US Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II with the 31st Infantry Division. Upon his return he entered the family business, Tambasco's Market on the city's south side. Later, he purchased the former Guiffre's Market which he operated for a number of years before he retired. Frank was a communicant of the former St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights Of Columbus Council 209 and the Monsignor William A. Browne Assembly Forth Degree along with the Lions Club and St. Agnello Congrega. On August 29, 1943 he was married to the former Sophie DeFeo. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his sons; Lorenzo "Larry Tambasco of Dallas, Texas, and Frank Jo-Ann Tambasco of Clifton Park; grandchildren; Jennifer and Andrew Tambasco; sisters; Concetta Spagnola of Amsterdam and Michelina Pettica of Buford, GA; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Tambasco and a sister, Josephine Manginelli. Services are Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are today Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Albany Regional Food Bank or the Community Hospice Of Amsterdam both in care of the funeral home office.
