Obituary of Barbara J. Rust

Barbara J. Rust, 70, of Fairmount Avenue, passed away peacefully Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam on October 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella Sandy Cincotta. A lifelong resident, she was a 1957 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Barbara worked at Montco from 1960 until 1977; then at Willow Glen until 1988. For the past twenty years, she has been employed by St. Mary's Hospital as an aide in the alcohol rehabilitation department. She earned the respect and admiration of her fellow employees and patients and was affectionately known as "Sarge". She was a communicant of St. Michael and Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel parish, and at one time was a member of it's Altar Rosary Society. In her spare time, Barbara loved to sew, but her greatest joy came from being with her family, especially her grandchildren. On October 16, 1960, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Rust. He predeceased her on December 20th of last year. She also lost a sister, Karen Mancini. Her loving family includes her children; Jo-Ann Richard Iwanski of Tribes Hill, and Carl J. Dawn Rust of Amsterdam; grandchildren; Corey and Michaela Rust, and Christie Meers and Teri Iwanski; great grandchildren; Collin Erb and Karen Castillano; sisters; Jane Burrill of Herkimer, Frances Wassel of Amsterdam and Joann Woolf of Bath, Pa.; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A prayer service will take place Thursday evening at 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call on Thursday from 4-7 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Michael's Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home office.
