Obituary of Esther E. Wallin

Mrs. Esther E. Wallin, 85, of Mary Street, Palatine Bridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on May 15, 1924 in Boston, MA she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lena Nelson Aronson. Mrs. Wallin attended Boston city schools and went on to attend Luther College in Nebraska. She later graduated from Harvard University in 1963. Esther then began a long career as a social worker for the City of Boston and for Village Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 1987. In 1990 she moved to Montgomery County to enjoy her retirement. She enjoyed her family, frequented museums and loved to garden. She read books, listened to music and often recited poetry. Her travels included trips to England, Scandinavia, Greece and Israel. Mrs. Wallin was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Canajoharie where she was a member of the Vestry for five years. Survivors include, her two children, Lois V. Manzi and her husband John of Sprakers, NY and John O. Wallin of Boston, MA; her sister, Ruth C. Johnson and her husband David of Sherborn, MA; three grandchildren, Kirsten Manzi of Johnstown, NY, Gregory Manzi of Sprakers, NY and Michael Manzi of Canajoharie, NY; her former husband, Kurt D. Wallin of Boston, MA; one nephew, Eric Johnson and his wife Becky of Sherborn, MA; her dear friends, Rev. Amanda Nickels and Connie Ducanto; and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Vincent O. Aronson. The Office for the Burial of the Dead will be read and Holy Eucharist celebrated on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11 o'clock at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with The Very Reverend Paul C. Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, November 6, 2009 from 4 until 7 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, where her arrangements have been entrusted.
