Obituary of Edna Luzinas

Edna Luzinas, 85, formerly of Lincoln Avenue, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at the Avenue Nursing Home in Schenectady with her son at her side. Born in Amsterdam on June 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Petras and Alexandra Sidlauskas Schell. Educated locally, Edna lived here her entire life. She was employed as a telephone operator for The New York Telephone Company for over thirty years before she retired, and was a member of it?s Pioneers group. Edna was a lifelong parishioner of the former St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church where she sang in it?s choir. She was a member of Council 100 of the Knights of Lithuania. Edna was accomplished at needlework and also in painting. She also loved to cook and bake and everyone enjoyed her Lithuanian specialties. Her husband, former Amsterdam Police Chief Albert Luzinas, predeceased her on June 20, 2006. She was the last sibling of her family, brothers Alfred and Benny Schell, and sisters Emily and Ida Schell all predeceased her as well. Her loving family includes her son Peter and his wife Martha Luzinas of Cohoes; daughter Alessa and her husband Steve Wylie of Amsterdam and her adored grandson Justin Luzinas. A sister in law Frances Luzinas of Amsterdam survives as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. A vigil service will take place Wednesday evening at 6 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, officiating. Interment will take place in St. Casimir?s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A calling period will commence at 4pm Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her name to the Sanford Home, or the Montgomery County SPCA both in care of the funeral home office.
