Obituary of Evelyn Blodgett

Mrs. Evelyn Blodgett, age 89, a resident of Gloversville, died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. She was born on September 16, 1920 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Gerald and Marie Kratz Hoag. She was a graduate of both Gloversville High School and the former Gloversville Business School. Evelyn and her husband, Alton E. Blodgett, owned and operated the former Blodgett's Cleaners and Tailors in Gloversville for many years. She continued to operate the business for several years following Alton's death in 1976. She later sold the business and worked at the Gloversville OTB for a time. She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church and its Catholic Daughters. Survivors include two sons, Douglas A. Blodgett of Johnstown and William E. Blodgett and his wife Janice of Gloversville; a sister, Dorothy Cawley of Pittsfield, MA; four granddaughters, April Graf, Lindsay O'Brien, Elizabeth Blodgett and Erica Blodgett; two great-grandchildren, Brian Graf and Owen Graf; a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Robert Hoag. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 161 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
