Obituary of Ellen C. Doxtater

Ellen C. Doxtater of Gloversville completed her life at home on Sunday, October 11, 2009 after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was born in Gloversville on May 12, 1947 the daughter of the late Carl and Lucille Sleezer Jackson. Ellen was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1964. She was employed by Swears, Helmont Mills, Hawkins and she was last employed at Somerset Industries from 1985 until her retirement in 2002. Ellen was truly dedicated to her profession and took pride in her role as supervisor. Many of her co-workers thought so highly of her, they fondly referred to her as "Ma". On August 28, 1965, Ellen was married to Donald R. Doxtater, Sr., who resides in Ilion, NY. Ellen was predeceased by Bill Scott, a dear companion of fifteen years. When Ellen and Patricia were teenagers, you could find them at the Ephratah dance hall most every Saturday night where admission was a mere 75 cents and they danced the night away. Ellen loved to cook and bake and Herb always said, "Ellen's coconut cream pie should be entered in a contest somewhere as I know it would win first prize". She enjoyed scrapbooking and she was famous for always being able to find a place for everything. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Doxtater of Caroga Lake and a son, Donald Doxtater, Jr. of Gloversville; six grandchildren: Brittany Lowell, Hannah Bovee, Dakota Bovee, Madeline Bovee, Sierra Hanson and Benjamin Doxtater. Also surviving are two sisters: Patricia McLain of Mayfield and Margaret Ashline Dave of Johnstown; two aunts: Margaret Manikewitz of Gloversville and Jackie Smith of Johnstown and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Roxie. Ellen was predeceased by two brothers: Billy and Carl Jackson; a dear brother in law, Herb McLain; son in law, Danny H. Bovee II and a dear nephew, Don Bollin. Family and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, October 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Mayfield Fire House, 28 North School Street Mayfield, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY.
