Obituary of John M. Wojcicki

John M. Wojcicki, 52, of Jacksonville, Florida formerly of the Amsterdam, NY area passed away unexpectedly Thursday September 17, 2009 at his home. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 1, 1957 a son of and Jack T. and Joan Crippen Crowley and Fred J. Wojcicki. John graduated from the former George A. Buchanan School in Hagaman, NY and Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam class of 1975. John lived in Hagaman and Broadalbin until September 1975. After graduation from High School John joined the U.S. Navy and was a Seabee. He received his basic training at the Pre Recruit Naval Training Command Company #031 in Orlando, Florida. In October 1975 he was sent to Gulfport Mississippi at the Seabee Training School for Heavy Equipment Operations. He was with the Navy Mobile Construction Battalion #133 A Company. In the 1970's he worked for Frank G. Bosco Greco's Gas Station in Amsterdam, NY. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy he was employed for a short time by the New York State Thruway Authority in Albany, NY. He worked in the road construction field in Gulfport Mississippi and then moved to Florida where he worked for the Metro Signals Construction Co. in Jacksonville, Florida. John later owned and operated his own construction company. He did underwater photography and operated Wojo's Underwater World, printing greeting cards and stationary depicting underwater scenes, He also owned and operated a fish supply store, Atlantis Aquarium of North East Florida. Mr. Wojcicki was a communicant of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman and served as an Altar Server as a young man. He loved football and was a devoted fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants. He enjoyed motorcycles, NASCAR, Scuba Diving and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. He had an extensive collection of Dale Earnhardt memorabilia. John loved animals and his "Dobies" and "Rotties" but most of all his two best friends his "Yorkies", Nemo and Nikki. He married the former Cynthia Grantz on May 8th, 1999. In addition to his wife he is survived by his mother Joan E. Crowley of Broadalbin NY and father Fred J. Wojcicki of Hacienda Heights, CA. A sister Cindi Balestra Gary of Broadalbin, NY. One brother, David W. Wojcicki Leslie of Wilton, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his nephew Gary Paul Balestra II and his step-father Jack T. Crowley. Local Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 26th, 2009 at 9:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Robert W. Powhida presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday September 26th, 2009 one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 8:30A.M. at the funeral home.
