Obituary of Richard J Hackert

Richard J. Hackert, 62, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 10, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1947 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Jacob and Dorothy Deal Hackert. Richard graduated in 1965 from Wilbur Lynch High School and attended FMCC until 1968 when he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. He was in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. He then went on to work for General Electric in Schenectady in various departments until he retired in 2002. Mr. Hackert was a member of the Johnstown Moose Club, Black Swamp Hunting Club and also the Sacandaga Boating Club, where he held various officer positions. In 2008, Richard was named Member of the Year. He loved to joke around and enjoyed hunting, boating, traveling, snowmobiling, NASCAR, baseball and football- especially the NY Giants. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Richard was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville. He is survived by his wife, Roberta J. Crocetta Hackert of Gloversville, whom he married September 21, 1974. He is also survived by a son, Brian Hackert Kelly Tucker and her children Evan and Chelsea of Gloversville; mother-in-law Stella Crocetta of Florida; godchild Julie Anne Ltiaf of Gloversville; cousins and many friends. Family and friends are invited and may call Friday, September 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A prayer service will be Saturday, September 12 at 9:15 at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ft. Johnson with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
