Obituary of Margaret D. Leonhardt

Fonda/Montgomery County Margaret D. Leonhardt, 80, of Streeter Road, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 16, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born in Albany, NY March 19, 1929 a daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth Snyder Dyer. Margaret was raised in Albany and was a graduate of the former Vincentian Institute in Albany. She received her undergraduate education at the College of Saint Rose and later obtained her Master's Degree in Library Science at SUNY Albany. She worked for many years at the Schenectady County Library retiring as the Head of the Reference Department. Margaret was of Roman Catholic Faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Cecilia's Church in Fonda. She married Edgar C. Leonhardt of Fonda August 11, 1951. He predeceased her on April 9, 2004. Her loving family includes her daughters Margaret Conger and her husband Robert of New Harbor, ME and Mary Leonhardt of Fonda, her son John R. Leonhardt and his wife Penny of Roswell, GA, her granddaughters Sarah, Jennifer and Emily, her great-grandchildren, Laura and Michael, her sisters Mary Pearson and Cathy Payne and her brothers John Dyer and Robert Dyer. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church Fonda, NY with Fr. Patrick Gallagher, OFM Conv. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats in Fonda. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday evening from 4:00 to7:00PM at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY 12072. Contributions in Margaret's memory may be made to St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068 or to the College of Saint Rose, 432 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
