Obituary of Edward W. Baranauskas

Edward W. Baranauskas, 87, of Vilinius Lithuania, formerly of Schenectady, NY passed away Wednesday August 12, 2009 in Vilinius. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on November 8, 1921 a son of Charles and Sally Klicute Baranauskas. He was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School. Edward voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 21 in 1943. He served in the South Pacific and took part in many battles including Peleliu, Okinawa and the consolidation of the Solomon Islands. Mr. Baranauskas was honorably discharged on November 3rd, 1945 at the rank of corporal. Mr. Baranauskas worked for the American Overseas Airlines at LaGuardia Airport in New York City before moving to Schenectady, NY in 1950. He then worked for the former Flight Test and later the General Electric Company in the Gas Turbine Division for over 30 years retiring in 1984. He moved to Vilinius, Lithuania in 2001. He was a communicant of the former Holy Cross Church in Schenectady, NY and the IUE Local #301 in Schenectady. Edward was also a member of the Knights of Lithuania and the Electric City Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He married Eleanore Svegzda on June 3rd, 1951, she passed away on August 12, 1975. He then married Genovaite Karanauskaite Baranauskas on December 31, 1981. In addition to his wife Genute, survivors include one son, George C. Claudia Baranauskas of Scotia, NY. Two daughters, Sandra Joan Soltren of Ballston Spa, NY and Barbara Ann Thomas Hoefs of Fonda, NY. His grandchildren, Thomas, Timothy Terinaand April Soltren. Robert Inessa Baranauskas, Lisa Baranauskas and Kenneth Hoefs. He was predeceased by a son Thomas E. Baranauskas on August 8th, 1996 and a brother Charles Baranauskas. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday September 3rd, 2009 at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main St. Amsterdam, NY with Father John Medwid as celebrant. There are no calling hours. Interment of Cremated remains will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery will full military honors.
