Obituary of Margaret Harriet McConchie Banta

Margaret Harriet McConchie Banta, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2009 in Pensacola, Florida. She was the loving wife of the late Francis Evan Banta and is survived by her two children, Charles F. Banta of Pensacola, Florida, Elizabeth M. Banta of Watertown, Massachusetts; three grandsons, James Banta, Richard Banta and Ronald Banta. She has four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Abigail, Jacob and Sarah Banta. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Harriet Louise Banta. Mrs. Banta was born May 25, 1914, to Earl McConchie and Kala Pierce McConhcie. She was one of six children. Her siblings, Winifred Palmateer, Ruth Quinlan, Earl McConchie, Jr.; John McConchie and Kala Pierson all preceded her in death. Mrs. Banta grew up on a farm in Galway, New York and was a graduate of Galway High School. Prior to her marriage, she was a member of West Charlton United Presbyterian Church. Following her marriage she resided in Hagaman, New York for the next sixty-seven years where she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hagaman and was involved in women's groups, church suppers and sang in the choir. Mrs. Banta worked for Amsterdam Printing Company for many years. She enjoyed square dancing, and participating in community parades and community projects. She traveled the Orient, Australia, and widely throughout the United States including Hawaii. Mrs. Banta will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends and neighbors who dearly loved her. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 11, 2009 at 11:00AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, New York 12010 with the Rev. Harmon Taylor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hagaman Cemetery, Pawling Street, Hagaman, New York. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00AM at the funeral home, relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Hagaman, PO Box 368, Hagaman, NY 12086.
