Obituary of Elizabeth Petra Yermas

Elizabeth P. Yermas 96, formerly of Division St. and the Amsterdam High Rise Apartments passed away Wednesday evening August 5th, 2009 at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam. Born in San Francisco, CA on March 7th, 1913 a daughter of Phillip and Olga Berteloin Olbert. She lived in California and Arizona and was educated there. She moved to New York in 1938 and later moved to the Amsterdam area in 1947. She was employed at the Auriesville Shrine Cafeteria for a time and then went to work for St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam in Food Service before her retirement. She married John J. Yermas in 1938. He passed away on February 13th, 1996. Elizabeth is survived by Two sons, John P. Yermas of Leesburg, Florida, and James V. Yermas and his wife Shirley of Amsterdam, NY. Two grandchildren, David and Cheryl Yermas. Two step-grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Sorbero. Six great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Yermas was an avid singer and sang in the church choir of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is currently a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the church's Christian Sewing Group. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a member of the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral Services will be held on Monday August 10th, 2009 at 11:00A.M .at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Rev. William Hodgetts presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday August 9th, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
