Obituary of Chris C. DeSimone

Chris DeSimone, 98, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009. He was born in Gloversville January 16, 1911, the son of the late Stephen and Rose Persico DeSimone. He was a leather worker in various local mills, including Levor's in Gloversville. Chris served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. Chris attained the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married the former Minnie Allen, who survives, on November 23, 1939. They shared almost seventy years together. Early in life, Chris lived in Napa, California for six years. It was here that, at a very young age, he became the patriarch of his family. He accepted this responsibility with much pride and love. He was devoted and extremely attached to his family. Chris enjoyed gardening, music and working on the home he shared with his beloved wife. They loved taking bus trips to area casinos, such as Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun together. He threw a great party- he loved family get-togethers. Chris was a member of the Concordia Singing Society, the VFW and the Catholic War Veterans. In addition to his wife, Minnie, Chris is survived by a brother, Carl DeSimone Mary of Albany; a special niece and caregiver, Debra Hennessey; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews and great grand nieces and great grand nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Caroline Esposito and a brother, Thomas DeSimone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown with full miltary honors. There will be no calling hours.
