Obituary of Nancy Lee Cassaro

Mrs. Nancy Lee Cassaro, age 61, died on Friday morning, June 19, 2009 at her home in Meco surrounded by her loving family. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 16, 1947 in Gloversville, the daughter of Joan Finnerty Hanson and the late Edward Hanson. She attended Gloversville schools and graduated from Gloversville High School in 1965. Nancy married Mike Cassaro on October 30, 1965 and they shared over 43 wonderful years together. Also surviving are her three children, John Cassaro, Sr. and his wife Jill and Lori Ann who was also Nancy's private nurse of Meco, and Jeffrey Joe Gerentine of New York City; two grandsons, Nicholas Scott and John, Jr. "John-John" of Meco. Additional survivors include her mother, Joan Hanson; special sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Dick Lee, Sr; another sister and two brothers, many nieces, nephews, friends and her extended family at the Broadalbin - Perth School District. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Malfetano and his wife Barb, Kellie Hennessey and the nurses of the 5th floor at Albany Memorial Hospital. Nancy was employed for many years at price Chopper in Gloversville and the last 14 years as a Teaching Assistant at Broadalbin - Perth Intermediate School, retiring April 1, 2009 due to illness. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Nancy Cassaro Benefit Fund for students in need, c/o NBT Bank, P.O. Box 463, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
